This baby is a miracle…

Friday, September 14th, 2007

I hadn’t been to the hospital in…way too long! The first time I saw Sylas in a crib, I instantly started crying. I knew I was witnessing a miracle. This little guy is fighter and I love him for it! He’s just over 3 months and he’s already defied incredible odds. He is beautiful and chunky! More than that, he is a symbol of hope and life. It’s hard not to love him instantly…it was even harder that the visit had to come to an end.

Introducing Sylas Christopher and his beautiful mom, Brianna!

There’s no good time to be sick!

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Ever feel yourself getting sick and say to yourself, “I can’t get sick now…I have too much to do!”? Well, that is me all the time! I don’t get sick very often but, when I do I get annoyed. I should rest, sleep, drink water and enjoy the down time but instead I push through not wanting to give in thinking I’m lazy! Type A personality? I think so.

This week Adriah and I both got sick with head colds. It takes on a whole new meaning when you’re a mom who’s sick caring for a baby who’s sick. Wiping noses, giving lots of cuddles, slowing down to comfort her because she’s so sensitive!

So, I’ve decided I’m going to be taking it easy the next couple of days. Even taking naps…I’m a woman on a mission…get better before Saturday’s wedding!

I’m not very good at asking for help either. So, today when a friend offered to take Adriah for the morning so I could rest, I tried to talk her out of it several times. Finally, I gave in. I don’t have a lot of family that live close so my friends are my family and they love my little girl like my own sisters would! I am so blessed and thankful.

The Henriksen family!

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

As you know, I mostly shoot weddings during the summer season but sometimes I get a call for family photography…this was one of those calls! But instead of actual kids in this family they have a very sweet black dog that they saved from the humane society. It took “Cody” a while to warm up to me but, in the end we became good friends. In a lot of ways working with a high-strung dog is like trying to photograph toddlers! They never sit still…and I love a challenge!

Digital Photography comes with perks!

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

I received another email with questions so here goes…I’ll write my comments in bold!

I, just like Elaine Federico, found about you from the Morrisons\’ web page (I pray that all is well with them). I am also I new photographer. I just down loaded photoshop CS3 for trial. Thanks so much for your advice. I was wondering how you did the pictures 6 & 7 of Tawny and Clayton to have the color and Sepia in the same picture. In most cases when you see a picture that is mostly black and white or sepia I’m decreasing the saturation of all the color and increasing one color!

Also how do you subdue the colors as in picture #21 of the same wedding. I’ve developed presets in the develop category of Adobe Lightroom by playing with the program, finding I an effect I like and saving it as a preset for later. I usually pick the preset that compliments the picture the best. In Lightroom you don’t have to click to see the image change, you can see just by scrolling over the presets. Plus, you can make as many copies as you want without changing the size of the image!

By the way your daughter is gorgeous! Thank you! I think so too! My children are on my web site kammelphoto.com Check out her site…It’s always great to see someone elses work! They are the three in the christmas picture. I was afraid at first to do weddings but now I love it. It really feels good as you edit the pictures and see the progress. Thanks for all the help that you have given us developing photographers. Your work is wonderful. I do wish that I could make my web site better (like online viewing of proofs and disabling the right click so people can\’t copy the pictures) Thanks! Lisa Kammel

No Problem…I love getting help from other photographers so why not give it too!

Blogging continues…

Monday, September 10th, 2007

I have posted 147 blogs in the last 6 months or so! It’s crazy! And I’ve had almost 300 comments! That’s even crazier!

It’s an incredible technical culture we live in. Through Google Analytics, I can see that I have viewers from all over the country…it actually breaks down how many are logging on and from what state. It’s a free service and incredibly helpful. If you’re setting up or already have a website, you should check it out!

AND the best part is I still enjoy it! Whether typing out updates on the Morrisons, developing photography gifting, displaying pictures from the latest shoot or just talking…it’s really fun! I know I’ve inspired some friends to start and they love it to.

There are many times I sit down and I don’t know what to say (which if you know me, is kinda unusual) but, I find a soon as I start typing something comes! There is small part of all of us that likes to be heard…and another part of us that believes our experiences (good or bad) can help someone else. I’ve written about everything yet, I have so much more to share!

This has been one of the craziest seasons of my life! I have 6 more weddings this year and they are all in the next 5 weeks! WOW! My last is on October 13th and you better believe we’ll be celebrating that weekend…just in time to start scheduling fall/Christmas family shoots!  I know I’m not alone in being busy. Let’s choose to take some time every day to slow down, be thankful, and love the people around us!
