Labor Day Weekend

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

As you may know, life is a little crazy for our family right now…weddings, editing, packing, painting, etc. BUT, in the midst of chaos I’m forcing myself to slow down and remember summer is almost over…I need to enjoy every day. I noticed it was getting dark at 8:30pm, the nights are cool and the leaves have started to turn on a couple of trees. (Don’t get me wrong, I love the fall…but autumn has a tendency of turning into winter and in Minnesota that can mean a really long time under snow and ice.)

So, my encouragement today, is for everyone to take time and chill outside. Enjoy your weekend and Monday too. If at all possible don’t work…just relax. Get a tan! It may be one of your last chances this summer. And if I could suggest one more thing it would be to laugh out loud! I know it sounds weird but laughing out loud is so therapeutic!! I highly recommend it.

We bought a House!!!

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Ok. So, if you’re wondering why there’s been a famine of blogging lately it’s cause we just purchased a house in Prior Lake. What I didn’t realize is, when you buy a foreclosure home it’s tons more work! We’re getting every inspection done we can to avoid future issues…and because we’re keeping our townhome (and the tight the new mortgage stuff) the financial documents required are crazy! I know it’s for my own protection but it’s a ton of work. We only have until next Thursday to back out but, it doesn’t look like we will.

Needless to say…I’m still really excited!

By the way, if you or someone you know is looking for the sweetest 3 bedroom, 2 bath townhome in a great location (just off 169 in Eden Prairie) let me know! I have loved this house and we giving it a new coat of paint and carpet clean before we leave…it’s going to be beautiful.

Buying a Flash?

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

I just got this email and I thought I’d answer it on the blog and let everyone share their input.

HI Noemi,

I am a very amateur photographer whose only talent is having a nice camera. I try to use natural light whenever possible, and there are times - like at dusk when my husband is playing with my son before bed - that I’d love to take some pictures, but tend not to because the way the flash on my camera looks. I’m looking to get what I would call an ‘add on’ flash for my Canon Digital Rebel XTI and don’t know where to start. I’m looking for something that looks like natural light, is somewhat lightweight, and doesn’t cost a ton. I started to look on B&H but got lost in the technical jargon and am wondering if you could shed some light on this for me. I really appreciate your input as I really respect your work!
Thank you,
Tania

Ok. This is a hard question for me because I avoid using flash anytime I can. But at ceremony’s and reception’s I have to…so I do. I use the Canon 580EX with the Garg Fong diffuser and I like the results I get but I paid about $600 for the combo. AND THAT’S PROBABLY NOT THE ANSWER YOU’RE LOOKING FOR, right? So, here’s some cheaper ways you can diffuse your flash. Buy an attachable diffuser that fits your model. Tell the sales clerk you want to natural light in low light situations and see what he suggests. I’ve seen a few types (ranging $20 to $50) and I’m sure they all work the same. It will help to avoid harsh flash especially on skin tone.

One thing I used to do when I shot with a pop-up flash was put foggy-colored scotch tape over the light…it worked as a low budget/last minute fix.

I hope this helps.

Last of Other People’s fav’s…

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Hi Noemi,
Here are a few of my favorites. I had a hard time choosing, there are way too many to choose from!

The one with the little feet is our daughter, Emma. She was born 13 weeks premature, weighing 1 lb 8oz and 13 1/2 inches long. She had a long haul in the hospital, 5 1/2 months, plus another week for another surgery. But as you can see from the other picture, she is SO happy! GOD IS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!! Overall she is doing great. We have just started some physical therapy for her, as she is a bit behind in some areas.

There is just something so sweet about pictures of babies feet/toes and hands/fingers. It was very overwhelming with her being born so early and not knowing how things would turn out. My husband took the picture and when he showed it to me, I immediately fell in love with it. For some reason, it just speaks volumes to me.

By the way, Noemi, I love your pictures, they are beautiful!
Jodi

Thanks to everyone who send in pictures. We’ll do that again sometime but, now we’re moving on to other blogging topics. I have no idea what yet but, something always seems to come to me when I sit down at the computer to blog! I just go with it!

Hiking with young kids…

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

…It’s an interesting thing! We went hiking with Matt’s brother and family today. We got up had breakfast, Leyton took a nap, Adriah and Matt went swimming - it was freezing, I cleaned and got the bag ready for our hike!

We met up with the Hedricks at 11am and then got to the trail at 11:45pm. So, picture this, a 4 month strapped to Matt, a 3 year old who trips constantly and teenagers who want to explore…and parents who just want to set up pictures. It worked but, needless we didn’t last long. I’ll upload the pictures when I get home so you can see our pack!

It was fun and we’re still having fun…my kids are sleeping. Angie (sis-in-law) and I are playing Scramble through Facebook and the rest went on another hike. (A real hike…the work up a sweat you need running shoes not flip-flops kind of hike!)

We’ll go swimming and eat dinner together tonight then Matt and I will head home tomorrow. It’s been a great time away but, I’m ready to go home…especially since we put a bid on a house last week and we’re in final negotiations. YIKES! I can’t believe I just wrote that out-loud…buying a house is such a big deal! I can’t believe we’re doing it. We low-balled a foreclosure and they countered so we took the weekend to think about it. I’ll keep you posted!

Well, that about sums it up for now. Never a dull moment in my life.
