Engagement Pictures

Probably 50% of my clients this year asked to trade out their engagement pictures for an extra hour of shooting the day of the wedding. I want to be flexible but I also want clients to see the value of the engagement session.

Getting your picture taken is not easy for some. AND getting your picture taken by a stranger is harder. AND getting your picture taken when there’s pressure to produce the greatest shots ever is even harder. The engagement session helps us work out all the bugs…so all these reason it will be a part of all my packages next year!

I usually talk to the bride and groom about a location that is meaningful to them as a couple. Here’s a few locations I recommend: Centennial Lakes, Edina , Harriet Island and Harriet Island Regional Park, St. Paul (click here to watch video), Minneapolis Sculpture Gardens, and for more informal shots any kids play area and forest will do!

List of things to bring:

-engagement ring

-one or two extra shirts (I take a lot of pictures and it’s nice to have a couple different looks)

-any unique “memory-type-things” (eg. stuff animal given on first date, jewelry, a card or anything else that makes you laugh!)

Come to your engagement photo session expecting to have fun…I do!I’m currently booking engagement sessions so if you haven’t nailed down a date contact me a.s.a.p. with some dates that will work!

Noemi, you did our engagement photos and our wedding – both were amazing! I would totally take the time to recommend the engagement shoot to anybody.

Wedding day photos are priceless, but I treasure our engagement photos immensely. Having beautiful pictures capturing that new love with your best friend – there is nothing like it!

There is definitely something special about our engagement photos that isn’t captured in the formal beauty of our wedding. I love them!

WPPI – Vegas here we come…

I’m so excited! It’s my first time in Vegas and I’m going to the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) conference with my brother (Alexander) and sister-in-law (Tiffany). They have an incredible photography business out of Toronto, Canada. Check out their site.

I’m going with high hopes to see the latest and greatest in photography equipment AND bond with my bro!

I’ll tell all when I get back. Got anything you want me to check out or look for? Let me know.

Why photography?

Wow. I’m soooo excited to finally be blogging! I don’t know all that I’ll be writing about but that’s the exciting part. I’m learning and growing as a photographer every day and I have lots to share. I want to use this blog to help my clients by directing them to referrals for every aspect of wedding planning and then offering interactive questions and answers.

I want to be able to share alittle more about my heart and passion for this incredible art! Photography was always in my heart but I never pursued it as a career until one of my friends talked me into doing her wedding. I literally told her “no” 3 times before I caved in. After one wedding I knew that I had found what I wanted to do.

Hard to describe…It’s being there and capturing precious details, freezing time and handing it over to be cherished forever…it’s beautiful.

That was five years ago.

Not only do I love shooting, I love getting to know people and helping them relax and enjoy themselves. Lots of times I’ve had the guys thank me for engagement sessions cause it always turns out to be lots of kissing 🙂

What concerns do you have in getting your engagement or wedding pictures done? Be honest. I’ll answer any questions you have.

Alright, first of all, thought I’d start out grossing you out! Yes, I love steak! Sorry if you can’t read because gagging! If you’re able to continue, here’s the low down…

I’m the second of four; three redheads and then my brother who was blessed with brown! We’re very close in age; four kids in five years AND 2 of the four work as photographers…weird.

I’ve been married almost seven years and have a little girl named Adriah who’s almost two. She’s adorable and I love watching the world through her eyes. Matt (my husband) is my best friend. We’re both Canadian, but love Minneapolis and intend to stay here forever!

I just turned 31 and two days later cut 5 inches off my hair and added lots of highlights and “texture”. Basically, I look normal from the front and like a rock-star from behind. I love it! I always want to have alittle risk in my life.

I love almost anything creative: singing (to the One I love), quilting (not old-school, but funky stuff), scrapbooking (I’ve switched to digital), painting (watercolor – I learned from my father-in-law, Tony Hedrick), make-up (MAC is my fav.) and of course photography. I hope to always have hobbies that push me creatively! I’m a perfectionist so learning new things can put me in a bad mood…not so good. BUT the good news I usually learn quick and love the challenge.

That’s a little. More later.
