I've had many perms in my life so it's not THAT crazy to be considering to do it again, but because I've done it before I know what's at risk! I need to weigh the pros and cons. I'll list the ones I've thought of so far and I'd love to hear your opinion! Pros
- Having hair that's totally different!
- Headbands! (always look better with curly hair)
- Quick styles! (shake and let dry or diffuse for more curl)
- It changes up my wardrobe! I always dress more girly with curly hair.
- Getting to buy new hair product!
- Perms are coming back in style...I'd be living on the edge with the trend setters!
Cons
- Frizz!
- Growing it out and it looking like an old perm (straight on top curly on bottom)...not good.
- Risky! It might not turn out how I picture it.
- I have bangs. How it that going to work with a perm?
- I have highlights - hope this isn't going to be to over-processed!
- Cost?
What do you think? Have you had a perm? Do you think I'm crazy? Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Bring paper and pen for on-the-go note-taking.

I'm working on a photography e-booklet that is going to so helpful for everyone interested in photography! I wish someone had handed me this tool when I was starting to shoot professionally 8 years ago. I think it's perfect for the stay-at-home-Mom trying to capture her kids and for the up-and-coming-professional-photographers trying to learn everything they can to improve their skills! It is simply put and straightforward...kinda like me! I'm going to break up this tutorial into two posts one on making the best out of every location and the other on posing. Here's what I'm working on today! Location, location, location. They say location is everything but, i disagree...a good photographer can get a shot in the perfect situation and perfect location but a great photographer can get a shot anywhere and anytime. That's the difference of hiring someone who just picked up a DSLR at a camera store and started a business AND the photographer with training and experience. In most cases, you do get what you pay for.
Here's our not so beautiful portrait location...check out the stunning houses in the background! I chose this location because of the light. The sun is going down so if I put my lovely subject with her back towards the sun then I get gorgeous back light coming through her hair AND because she's not facing the sun she's relaxed and not squinting.
I often get questions from my blog readers about my equipment and where I buy. I've answered before but, I thought why not do it again! Most photographers are shopping for equipment now...before the wedding and portrait season begin! I love shopping at B & H Photo because every person who answers the phone knows what they are talking about. I like that. Of course you have to get over the fact that they may know more then you...that's happened to me a few times. And then you will realize they are an incredible resource. B & H Photo are running a couple of great deals right now so I wanted to pass them on to you:
Big Memory cards and the Flip Video Camera are two of my favorite things! Must haves...something to think about for an upcoming Mother's Day present! :)
Here's the link for more rebates and promotions too!
What's your suggestion for "Must Haves" going into this season...leave a comment and help another.

You guys know that I love to share a good thing when I find it, so I couldn’t help passing this one along to you. A friend of mine who lives in the Twin Cities writes a fashion blog, wildruffle.com, and it’s so much fun to read! Cate has a passion for helping people find their individual style amidst the multitude of trends out there. She spent ten years in the retail industry, so she’s got the knowledge and she’s excited to share it with others. If you like what you see (and I know you will!), you can hear more at an upcoming event at Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie. It’s called My Favorite Things, and there’s a great lineup of speakers on topics such as Finding Joy with Our Kids, Nourishing Our Families, Spiritual Renewal, and more. Cate will be going over spring trends and how to wear them. There will be a ton of giveaways throughout the night in addition to yummy food.
When: 2/10/11, 7 p.m.
Where: Chapel
Cost: Tickets are only $12, but hurry because they go quickly!
I know Cate's website is going to catch on...soon we'll be seeing her touch of style everywhere. She's someone who can make simple things look fabulous and I'm excited to learn from her. For my purposes she's totally going to be my very own Minneapolis Fashion Consultant! (A term a made up but, I think has a ring to it!)
I signed up at her site and get the blog updates emailed to me - super convenient and kinda fun to be surprised by fashion in my inbox every couple days.
Have fun!
It's freezing out today - I'm going to help you think of warm happy thoughts! So, what do I want for next year? I would love to shoot more weddings closer to home (convenience) and to shoot at a couple of venues I've never shot at before (variety) and shoot at my favorite's again (they never get old). What are photographers saying about FOCUSED Photography Workshops?
“Your passion and energy around photography was contagious and I think everyone benefited from something from the day. Your planning and preparation definitely showed and I was so energized leaving your house. You have an uncanny ability to light a fire under people…and I loved watching the group get so excited about different things through out the day. You did a wonderful job and were truly inspiring! (Jacquelyn – attendee)
“Thank you so much for this, it was actually a dream come true for me because like I had told you before it is exactly what I needed trying to get into the business. My favorite part was the Lightroom demonstration that you gave to us. It gave me a lot of info and excitement to have that for myself and have an idea on how to use it.” (Steph – attendee)
Some of you might know that my brother (who lives in Toronto, Canada) is also a professional photographer. He uses and swears by Nikon and I am a Canon Girl...we've had many conversations about the pros and cons of both companies...neither wants to switch! Even though I'm not switching to Nikon, I'm a firm believer in passing on a good deal! Nikon is offering rebates on a bunch of their cameras so if you're looking to buy follow the links below! P.S. B & H Photo is where I buy all of my equipment - I find their prices competitive and their knowledge of equipment is incredible!
Have fun shopping! But, do me a favor and don't email asking me specifics about any of these cameras cause...like I said, I'm a CANON girl. I do know that Nikon makes amazing cameras!
