I have a hole in my dining room floor and my upstairs looks like a war zone. This is definitely not the way I'd be spending the holiday season. Let me explain. We came home Saturday to find out that our toilet had over flowed the night before and the water and been flowing all night. It's incredible how much damage can be caused by water...granted it was a ton of water. The damage is in the bathroom, both my kids rooms carpet flooded, and the hall carpet got wet too! Downstairs it damaged our ceiling in the dining room, and soaked the floor, but most of the water pooled over the garage...where it poured pretty extensively. CRAZY eh? I've been talking on the phone with the insurance company for the last couple of days and today they started the tearing down process. The fans are blowing and we just have to wait out the next few days to know the extent of the damage.
Fixing this house is going to take a while and it's a lot of work:
First the plumber will have to establish the source of the problem.
Second we'll have to repair or replace the carpet and pad in the kids rooms.
Third tear down and replace the ceiling in the dining room.
Fourth replace the damaged floor boards (or the whole floor if we can't match them.)
Fifth tear out the dry wall and insulation in the garage and replace everything.
All this happening days before Thanksgiving. Remarkably we're doing pretty well...mind you, the dust has not begun to fly yet! It's going to be a big job but thankfully the insurance company is going to take care of everything...all because of a toilet.
Please keep us in your prayers. Construction is the last thing I want to be doing right now but, since I don't have a choice I'm choosing to look for the bright side! Tomorrow I should know more. I'll keep you posted.
